Fill the Square Frame

One compositional technique that is can be useful is to fill your frame to the brims with your subject. Here are a few images that draw a comparison between a normal image and one that had the frame filled.
1-1 1-2
2-1 2-2
3-1 3-2
4-1 4-2
5-1 5-2
As can be seen, in some cases filling the frame makes for a better image than when you give the subject room. In others, having typical composition is unequivocally better. And in most, the better image is more subjective; square frames and filling the frame changes the dynamic of the image, which is more like apples to oranges than red apples to green apples.
