Image Manipulation
Being versed at image manipulation helps you as a photographer because it enables you to address any situation that arises in a photo and tailor it to your suiting. In addition, image manipulation allows you to create new works of art as a whole from other sources.
I personally am not a fan of manipulation; the kind of photos I like to create are naturalistic, and the most I would ever do would involve dodging and burning, vignetting, or slight color adjustments. Some may like to do things like touch up the skin of a subject in a portrait, or even create entirely new works out of other images, but I don't ever have the intention of changing the objects and textuerd and structures present in any image I take.
The closest I've done with photo manipulation are composite image where the subject appears multiple time throughout the image:
